We chose these boardwalks because they have something else going on besides the sand and the sun. Yes, some have theme parks, but some are just great places to take a walk, get a snack and find fun little things to do…

Jump to Fun Boardwalks in: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Westchester, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey

MANHATTAN

  • The Little Island– Not really a boardwalk, but Manhattan’s newest pier-side entertainment and relaxation space- great views, green hills and nice architecture…

BROOKLYN

  • Coney Island Beach– Boardwalk, amusement park and a killer “crazy” vibe all rolled into one… check out the NY Aquarium too, it’s right off the boardwalk…
  • Brooklyn Bridge Park– Technically not a boardwalk, but a fun place to hang out near the water none-the-less. Playgrounds, carousel and killer views help too, but no swimming…

QUEENS

  • Rockaway Beach– 6 miles of sand and boardwalk, all accessible by train or bus. Restaurants and bathrooms a plenty. As are the playgrounds… Accessible by subway too…
  • Jacob Riis Beach– Lesser known and much “hipper” than it’s cousin Rockaway to the east. Still convenient, but bus or car only. Ft.Tilden (weird old fortifications) nearby to explore, great food options too for kids…

BRONX

  • Orchard Beach– The Bronx Riviera. Can get “very busy” during the summer weekends. “Boardwalk” is concrete, but there are playgrounds, concessions and other more natural areas around to explore, especially the little hiking trails in the north side……

WESTCHESTER

  • Rye Beach & Playland– A beach, amusement park and a pool all steps from each other, pretty cheap too, considering…

LONG ISLAND

  • Jones Beach– 2 mile long concrete path links all of Jones beach and offers multiple amusements like mini-golf, adventure course and a band shell with live music…
  • Long Beach– 2 miles of boardwalk best for strolling or biking, but it has a playground at Magnolia Street, some food options and free street parking around if you don’t go to the sand…
  • Sagamore Hill– Former home of Theodore Roosevelt’s family now houses a Junior Ranger Program, a nature trail, a museum and Eel Creek boardwalk with great views…
  • Fire Island Lighthouse-The boardwalk through the dunes leading to a light house begins in Field 5 of Robert Moses State Park… watch the birds, or take a dip after…
  • Fire Island (Sunken Forest)– Cool ecological trail “through the woods behind the dunes” on a boardwalk on Fire Island, plus a beach near-by… take a ferry from Sayville to Sailors Haven…
  • Sunken Meadow State Park– Three quarters of a mile of open boardwalk overlooking Long Island Sound, plus 3 playgrounds… and some sandy, high hills to climb on too…

CONNECTICUT

  • Captain’s Cove @ Seaport– Cute tiny shops, escape room, seafood to eat and boats to look at, very relaxing at off hours and bustling in peak season…
  • Savin Rock Boardwalk– A nice place to stroll, get in the water or eat at the restaurant… very relaxing…
  • Ocean Beach Park– Pool, water slides and a large sandy beach, but a bit of a drive from NYC…

NEW JERSEY

  • Wildwoods– 38 blocks of classic boardwalk extravaganza including water park, roller coasters, a tram and all other boardwalk fun available until you drop… free beach access too…
  • Seaside Heights– Classic Jersey amusement oriented boardwalk with amusement/water park and other family fun…
  • Point Pleasant– A mile long boardwalk with an aquarium and amusement park, also known as Jenkinson’s Amusement Park & Aquarium…
  • Atlantic City– A “beach party you don’t want to miss” for kids and adults alike with every amusement you can imagine… oh yeah, there’s a beach too…
  • Ocean City– Two amusement parks, mini-golf and go-karts among other things on this 2.5 mile long “extremely family-friendly” boardwalk…
  • Long Branch– Ritzy boardwalk with shopping and fine dining at Pier Village, kids can have some fun too at the Boardwalk Fun’n’Games arcade, plus events through the summer and a nice wide beach…
  • Asbury Park– “A bit of a scene with art-music vibe”, but has a big splash park for kids ($20 or so per fam), arcade and mini-golf besides the beach…
  • Cape May– 2-mile long promenade with arcades, ice cream and candy shops and great views, plus beach…
  • Keansburg– Classic boardwalk amusement/water park close to NYC, includes a free beach overlooking Manhattan skyline…
